Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians! We kicked things off with an update from Jeff Cabanaw about the Rotary Hockey Classic.  The numbers are in and it appears that this event had another record-breaking year by netting over $14,000.00! Congratulations to Jeff and the rest of the hockey committee on another hugely successful event!  Our speaker today was fellow Rotarian and Unified Manager of the Town of Essex and Village of Essex Junction, Evan Teich.  Evan discussed the continued efforts to consolidate and share services between the two entities. Although the Town and Village remain separate for the time being, great strides have been made in reducing the duplication of services which has made the operation of both entities far more efficient and less costly.  Evan also discussed the continued economic growth in Essex and Essex Junction. Combined, the Town and Village make up one of the largest and most affluent communities in the state. Evan concluded his talk by mentioning many of the new projects and developments in the area.  In addition to the crescent connector that is being proposed to alleviate traffic at the 5 Corners, efforts to develop the shopping area in Essex Center are ongoing and many new businesses are taking root in our community.
Essex Rotary Golf Tournament
The drive for sponsors for the Essex Rotary Golf Tournament is now in full effect!  In order for this event to once again be a success, we need every one of our members to hit the ground running and to ask as many businesses as possible to support this event.  Each week, Dave Johnson will update the list of sponsors.  He and other members of the Golf Committee can also point you in the direction of potential sponsors to solicit.  Please contact Dave Johnson at mdjkiln@gmail.com if you have any questions about this event.
Governor’s Visit
On May 1st, Governor Scott will be addressing our Club.  As this is an important speaker, we would like to see a fairly large crowd in attendance for this event.  Rotarians are therefore encouraged to bring friends and family members to that meeting to hear the Governor speak.  Please let President Andy Love know if are planning on bringing guests so that we can give The Essex an estimated head count for that date.
Heavenly Pantry Food Shelf
We are looking for volunteers to help staff the Heavenly Pantry Food Shelf on the following dates: Thursday, April 25th (3:30pm); Monday, May 13th (5:00pm) and Thursday, May 23rd (3:30pm). Please contact Sharon Dettenrieder at sharon.dettenrieder@gmail.com if you are able to fill any of these shifts.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, April 24, 2019 – We will be holding our monthly committee meetings.  Please note that I will be on vacation next week which means the newsletter will also be on vacation next week.
