Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians!  Today’s speaker was Nathan Puffer from Wisdom Stoves VT.  This entity is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to distributing environmentally friendly cook stoves to rural parts of Kenya. Due to population growth, deforestation has been a significant problem in Kenya.  As such, finding fuel for common cook stoves has been a problem.  Compounding this issue is the fact that cook stoves commonly used in Kenya are not only environmentally unsound, but they adversely impact the health of individuals using them.  To combat these issues, Wisdom Stoves VT has developed the “malaika jiko” stove.  This stove is designed in such a way that it does not produce smoke, thereby alleviating pollution issues.  The stove also helps conserve wood by turning the bio mass used as fuel into charcoal that can be used for cooking at a later time.  For more information about this project, please visit its website at www.wisdomstoves.org
