Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians!  Today’s speaker was Aaron Fastman who was on hand to discuss his company, 1-800-Got Junk.  Mr. Fastman’s company assists people in removing unused items and debris from their houses and places of business. After removing the junk, the company finds homes for the items removed or disposes of them in environmentally friendly ways.  Many of the items they remove are donated to a variety of educational and charitable organizations.  For more information about this business, please visit its website at:

Essex Rotary All-Star Hockey Classic

This year’s All-Star Hockey Classic is officially in the books!  This was the first year we held both events on the same day and, in spite of a few minor kinks, everything went smoothly and the event was an enjoyable one for all in attendance.  Both games were very competetive and the overall attendance at both contests ended up being much higher than anticipated.  The hockey committee will be holding a wrap-up meeting sometime next week to discuss the event and the areas for improvement for next year.  Thank you to committee members Justin Martin, Mike Plageman, Jeff Cabanaw, and Betty Poulin for their hard work on this event.  We would also like to thank the many Rotarians and non-Rotarians who volunteered their time this past Saturday to help make this event a success.   We really could not have done this without the efforts of so many!

Essex Rotary Golf Tournament

With the hockey event now in the rearview mirror, it is time for the Club to focus all efforts on our next big event.  The Essex Rotary Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Links at Lang Farm Golf Course.  This event is our biggest fundraiser, so it is important that all members pitch in to help out.  Every Rotarian is asked to bring at least one sponsor for this event and we would ask that all Rotarians participate on the day of the event by either playing in the tournament or by filling one of the many volunteer spots available.  Much more information will be provided about this event in weeks to come, but in the meantime, you may contact Golf Committee Chair Dave Johnson for more details

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  April 3, 2013 –  Bill Elliston from the ECHO Aquarium.  We will also have the official kick-off for the Golf Tournament which includes the always popular putting contest!
