Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians! We started things off by recognizing Carolyn Ambrosait as the latest member of our Club to attain the status of Paul Harris Fellow.  Carolyn earned this distinction by donating at least $1,000.00 to the Rotary Foundation.  Thanks to the generous support of Rotarians like Carolyn, the Rotary Foundation is able to finance the good work that Rotary does across the globe.  Our speaker today was Dave Cobb, who is the Executive Director of Green Mountain Boys’ State.  This summer-based leadership and citizenship program is sponsored by the American Legion is designed to teach young men in their junior and senior years of high school about the manner in which their local and state governments work.  Participants are usually selected by their respective high schools.  They then take part in a week-long program in which they participate in a number of mock political activities such as elections, drafting and proposing bills, and operating mock municipal budgets. A similar program for young women is run by the American Legion Auxiliary.  For more information about Green Mountain Boys State, please visit its website at http://vtlegion.org/boys_state.cfm

Corn Booth Recap

The Ten Best Days of Summer are now behind us and so is the 2019 Corn Booth!  Thanks in large part to amazing weather, the Fair saw robust crowds this year. As a result, the Club grossed $10,000.00 in sales of corn for the first time ever!  As costs are still being determined, we still don’t have the final figures on the net revenue we earned, however, it is anticipated that our net take will be up from last year.  Once again, thank you very much to all of the Rotarians, friends and family members who graciously took time out of your busy schedules to keep the Corn Booth staffed.  This is a very labor-intensive project and we could not pull this off without the help of so many of our members. Thank you very much to Mari Palace and Tim Gendron for picking up and delivering the corn each day.  Last, but not least, a special thank you goes out to the Corn Booth Committee.  These members worked hard to make sure all of the details were addressed and that the Club had everything it needed to make this event a success.  Mike Dimitroff, Ray Allaire, Betty Poulin, Skip Oliver and Kristin Winer in particular, all put in a great deal of behind-the-scenes work that should be commended.

Upcoming Breakfast Meetings

Just as a reminder, we will be holding two breakfast meetings at The Essex this fall.  These two meetings will be held at 7:30am on Wednesday, September 25th and Wednesday, October 30th.  Each of these meetings will be held in lieu of our luncheon meetings on those weeks. Our hope is that hosting meetings at different times will present opportunities to more of our members who aren’t able to attend our lunch meetings on a regular basis.

Heavenly Pantry Food Shelf

We are looking for volunteers to help staff the Heavenly Pantry Food Shelf on the following dates; Monday, October 14th (5:15pm); and Thursday, October 24th (3:30pm).  Please contact Sharon Dettenrieder at sharon.dettenrieder@gmail.com if you are able to fill any of these shifts.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, September 11, 2019 – Our speaker will be Dr. Carmelle Terbough, President of the Essex Lions Club.
