Greetings fellow Rotarians! Each year, our Club awards six scholarships to high school seniors from Essex High School, Mount Mansfield Union High School, and the Center for Technology in Essex.  Students are nominated by their schools based on their demonstrated commitments to the ideals of “Service Above Self” during their high school careers. Each scholarship awarded is for $2,000.00 which is financed by the money that our Club earns through our three fundraisers. Today, we had the pleasure of recognizing the 2019 recipients of our Club’s scholarships.  We first awarded the Ray Cota Memorial Scholarship in honor of late Essex Rotarian, Ray Cota.  Clay Messier from Essex High School was this year’s recipient of that scholarship.  Clay will be attending St. Michael’s College in Colchester this fall. The next scholarship recipient was Essex High School senior, Olivia Percy.  Olivia will be studying nursing at the University of Vermont.  We next awarded a scholarship to Kristy Svarczkopf from the Center for Technology in Essex. Kristy is attending Northern Vermont University in Johnson this fall where she will study education.  Tim Yandow from the Center for Technology was our next recipient.  Tim will be studying fish and wildlife sciences at Paul Smith College in the Adirondacks. We next awarded a scholarship to Ellie Churchill from Mount Mansfield Union High School.  Ellie will be studying at the University of Vermont this fall.  Our final scholarship was awarded to Sonia Nussbaum from Mount Mansfield Union High School. This fall, Sonia will be attending Indiana University where she will study non-profit management. Congratulations to this year’s scholarship recipients!  A special thank-you goes out to Penny Klein for spearheading the scholarship process on behalf of your Club and for serving as the M.C. for this event.

            With two weeks left to secure sponsors for this event, we still have 21 sponsors from last year who have either not been contacted or have not gotten back to us yet about sponsorships. For this tournament to once again be a success, we need members to contact these sponsors about supporting this year’s tournament.   Please contact Dave Johnson at mdjkiln@gmail.com if you have any questions about this event or if you need a list of sponsors who need to be contacted.

            We are looking for volunteers to help staff the Heavenly Pantry Food Shelf on the following dates: Monday, June 10^th (5:00pm) and Thursday, June 27^th (3:30pm). Please contact Sharon Dettenrieder at sharon.dettenrieder@gmail.com if you are able to fill any of these shifts.

 

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, May 29, 2019 – We will be holding our last committee meetings of the 2018-2019 fiscal Rotary year.
