Meeting Recap

Greetings fellow Rotarians! Today we celebrated the beginning of the holiday season with our annual senior luncheon at the Champlain Valley Exposition.  Along with the Knights of Columbus, our members helped stuff goodie bags and serve food to over 200 senior citizens. The Albert D. Lawton Middle School choir was on hand to get everyone into the spirit of the season by singing several holiday tunes.  The afternoon concluded with a visit from jolly old St. Nick himself and the disbursement of the goodie bags to the attendees. Thank you to all of the Rotarians who pitched in to make this event a success.  A special thank you goes out to Lois Parmelee for spearheading our Club’s involvement with this event.

Salvation Army Bell-Ringing

Just as a reminder, our Club has volunteered to cover Salvation Army bell-ringing shifts in front of the Essex Discount Beverage and the Price Chopper in Essex Center on December 8th and 9th.  Thank you to all of the Rotarians who have volunteered for shifts. Please be sure to check the online sign-up sheet to make sure you know the shift you will be working.
Rotary Hockey Classic

Preparations are about to commence for the Rotary All-Star Hockey Classic.  Each March, our Club organizes and runs this event that recognizes the top senior men and women high school hockey players in Vermont. The event itself is made up of both a men’s and women’s game that each feature the selected all-star players.  This is not only a great opportunity for these young men and women to play one last high school game, but it is our Club’s second largest fundraiser. Presently, the Hockey Committee is looking for more members to help put this event together.  If you would like to serve on this committee, please contact Committee Chair, Jeff Cabanaw at Tarrisonus@comcast.net

Heavenly Pantry Food Shelf

Thank you to all who have volunteered to cover the December shifts at the Food Shelf.  The next opportunities to volunteer at the food shelf will be on Monday, January 8th from 5:30 to 7:30 and Thursday, January 25th from 3:00 to 6:00. Please let Sharon Dettenrieder know if you are able to volunteer for either of these shifts.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  December 13, 2017 –  This will be our Annual Club Meeting at which time we will be holding what are always very hotly contested elections for the upcoming Board of Director positions. We will also be joined by the Essex High School Chamber Choir who will be performing some holiday music for our enjoyment.
