Meeting Recap

Greetings Rotarians!  The main focus of today’s meeting was round two of the Rotary Speech Contest.  The match-up was between the representative of Essex High School who won the first round and the first round winner from Milton High School.  As was the case in the first round, the contestants each delivered a speech on the four way test and that manner in which it can be applied to their daily lives.  After a tightly contested battle, the representative from Milton High School emerged as the winner.  She was awarded $150.00 and the opportunity to participate in the next round at the upcoming Rotary District Conference.  Thank you to both of these fine young adults for participating in this event!  We followed the speech contest with a classification talk from one of your newer members, Hannah Ricard.  Hannah is originally from Newport, Vermont and graduated from the University of Vermont.  She is currently employed with The Essex and is instrumental in making sure our Club’s needs are met on a weekly basis.  Hannah has always pursued artistic endeavors and is hopeful to continue activities that foster her love of dance.   Thank you to Hannah for taking the time to tell us about herself!

Essex Rotary Key Bank All-Star Hockey Classic

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Saturday, March 21st when we will be holding the annual Essex Rotary Key Bank All-Star Hockey Classic!  The women’s game will begin at 3:00pm and the men’s game will begin at 5:15pm.  As is always the case, we really need volunteers for this event, so we ask that you please consider helping us out that day.  Not only is this a great service for the community, but it is also one of our bigger fundraisers.  All we are asking is for 2 hours of your time on Saturday the 21st to help us out at one of the games.  Several of you also expressed an interest in providing baked goods for our concession stand, which is greatly appreciated and will be gladly accepted! Please note, due to a scheduling conflict, we will not be holding the pre-game banquet this year. We will be setting aside some time before each game to deliver an “elevator speech” about Rotary and we will be setting up an information table near the concession stand at both games.

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, February 11, 2015 – We will be holding our annual Service Above Self Dinner in lieu of our regularly scheduled meeting.
