Meeting Recap

Greetings Rotarians! Today we welcomed visitors from as close as the Colchester-Milton Club and as distant as the Rotary Club of Ventura, California. The main focus of today’s meeting was the Corn Booth and our overall fundraising results from that effort.  Our net profit for the 2014 Corn Booth was $4,362.00 which represented an increase of over $600.00 from last year’s figures!  This total includes the $960.00 that was raised from a record number of Essex Rotarians purchasing Corn Dollars this year.  Thank you to all who generously donated your time as volunteers!  A special thank you goes out to Ray Allaire and Holly Lemieux for once again ably serving as the co-chairs of the Corn Booth Committee and making sure that everything ran smoothly.  We concluded this week’s meeting with our monthly Charity Committee meetings.  With the success of events like the Corn Booth, each Charity Committee should have plenty of money to give away to worthwhile causes and projects.

Holiday Senior Luncheon

While it may feel like late summer or early fall, it is never too soon to start thinking about our next big service project.  This year’s holiday senior luncheon has been scheduled for December 3rd at the Champlain Valley Exposition.  This is a great event that truly allows our Club to give back to the community in a meaningful way.  It is important that we have as many Rotarians as possible on hand to help put together gift bags, serve food and clean up, so please mark your calendars for this date.  More details about the Senior Luncheon will follow in upcoming weeks.

Rotary Exchange Student

Don’t forget to keep track of our Rotary Exchange Student’s experiences in Iceland on our Club’s Facebook page!  Katy Trahan will document her time in Iceland by posting pictures and anecdotes throughout this school year! Katy has already posted some incredible pictures of Reykjavic for people to enjoy!

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, October 1, 2014 – Paul Ugalde and/or Missie Thurston from the Population Media Center will be on hand to discuss how their organization strives to improve the health of people around the world through the use of entertainment-education strategies.
