Greetings Rotarians!  Don Messier graciously stepped in as today’s mystery guest President! We started off today’s meeting with a classification talk from one of our newer members, Greg Morgan.  It is always great to hear a little bit more about our fellow members. Following Greg’s classification talk, we then had the opportunity to learn more about the Virtual Intercultural Avenues initiative at Essex High School.  Virtual Intercultural Avenues (VIA) is a web-based tool that is used to improve teacher and learnereffectiveness related to foreign language skills and cultural knowledge through the use of modern technology.  This tool has allowed teachers and students at Essex High School to interact directly with fellow educators and students in France and Belgium in an effort to enhance their respective educational experiences and understanding of cultures abroad.   Today, we had the unique opportunity to personally meet some of the educators from France with whom students and teachers in Essex have been collaborating.

 

The golf tournament is a mere 35days away! The sponsors are still trickling in, but we need to continue our push for more hole and cart sponsors.  Sponsorship brochures are available at the meetings or electronically if you need them (I have attached a copy to this newsletter).  Remember, this is our Club’s biggest fundraising event and its success will help give us the financial flexibility we need to donate to more charities in the upcoming Rotary year.  Every sponsor we can get helps!

 

 

            Please mark your calendars for the evening of Wednesday, June 25^th.  Our Club will be holding its annual Changeover Dinner at The Essex on that date.  This dinner will be held in lieu of our regularly scheduled meeting that day.  Please note that President Marie recently announced that we will not be doing a live auction at this year’s event. We will provide more details about the dinner as they become available.

 

Upcoming Meeting Schedule:  Wednesday, May 14, 2014 – Next week we will be our annual scholarship presentation!
