Meeting Recap

Greetings Rotarians! Tonight we held our annual “Service Above Self Dinner” at The Essex Spa and Resort.  The evening started with cocktails and some amazing music performed by the Essex High School Jazz Band.  After an amazing meal, we then honored four community members who serve with the Essex Fire Department, Essex Rescue and the Essex Community Justice Center.  These individuals were recognized for exemplifying the motto of “Service Above Self” by always going above and beyond the call of duty when assisting others in the community.  We then honored this year’s recipient of the “Service Above Self” award.  Each year, our Club bestows a Paul Harris Fellowship on an individual in our community who has selflessly dedicated his or her time to charitable or beneficial endeavors.  This year’s recipient was Annie Cooper, the founder of the “Swim with Annie” program.  Annie’s program is designed to foster a love of swimming in students of all ages. Throughout the years, Annie’s innovative and patient teaching methods have benefitted students from all over the world.  Fortunately for us, she ended up settling right here in Vermont where she continues to selflessly dedicate herself to sharing her love of swimming.  Congratulations to Annie on an honor well-deserved!  For more information about Annie’s program, please visit http://www.swimwithannie.com/

Essex Rotary Key Bank All-Star Hockey Classic

The Hockey Classic will be held on Saturday, March 15th.  This year we are holding a joint banquet at the Doubletree Hotel in South Burlington for both the men and the women. The women’s game will start at 1:00pm and the men’s game will commence at 3:30pm. By now you all should have received Betty Poulin’s e-mail soliciting volunteers for this event.  Thank you to those of you who have already volunteered.  The sign-up sheet is on the website and it will be passed around at the meetings. We ask that you please help out with this event if you can.  In addition to being a great service project, this was the Club’s second biggest fundraiser last year. With everyone pitching in, we hope to replicate that success this year.
