An Investment in
Goodwill
An estimated 878 million
people around the world — nearly half of them employed — live on
less than US$1.25 a day. Rotarians bring economic and community
development to impoverished areas through projects that provide
vocational training, support local entrepreneurs and community
leaders, and assist with long-term recovery in places struck by
natural disaster.
Hannah Warren, a former Ambassadorial Scholar, says her Rotary
experience inspired her to become a social entrepreneur. She
founded Jhoole, a nonprofit business that offers impoverished
women in India access to training, materials, and international
markets for hand-woven goods, enabling them to earn a living wage.
With help from a Rotary Foundation grant, Jhoole acquired looms,
cloth, and funds to cover training costs for weaving and sewing.
“There is no way I could be doing this [work] were it not for my
Ambassadorial Scholarship,” Warren says. “Like Jhoole’s programs,
Rotary scholarships are not a one-time donation; they are an
investment in goodwill.”
As
you finalize your charitable giving for this year, I hope you will
consider The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Gifts like
yours ensure that Rotarians can continue promoting peace, fighting
disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children,
supporting education, and nurturing local economies. Every
contribution, from every Rotarian, truly makes a difference.

"Welcome to the Rotary Club of Essex,
Vermont"
Located a few minutes from Burlington, Vermont, the Rotary
Club of Essex serves the communities
of
Essex,
Essex
Junction,
Jericho
and
Underhill.
Club meetings are every Wednesday at 12:10pm
at
The
Essex Resort and Spa.
Visitors are always welcome.
Rotarians from other area clubs often attend
our club meetings as well! We are known for
offering a superb lunch, with guest speakers on topics of interest to the community at large. Other
Club meetings are focused on becoming better Rotarians and offering personal
experiences of how we can serve others by strengthening our various
charitable and service projects.
Essex Rotarians work
hard at the Club’s
fundraisers. The proceeds from these events provide the monetary means
necessary for supporting the Club’s various charitable endeavors which
include, but are not limited to; scholarships for area students; the
Heavenly Pantry Food Shelf; the Rotary Foundation; and a variety of local,
national and international assistance projects.

Booth
at the Champlain Valley Fair
- From the end of August through Labor Day ---
Rotarians, friends, family and work associates work over 115
shifts offering Fair goers’ the freshest steamed corn
around!
Essex Rotary
Golf Tournament - Every June at the Links at Lang Farm,
30 teams compete for prizes and recognition from their peers in what has
become a very popular golf tournament.

Members are also
actively involved in providing monetary and hands-on support to the
following events:
Holiday Senior
Lunch
- Provided by Essex Rotary and Knights of Columbus for
over 25 years at the Champlain Exposition, this event serves over 200
senior citizens from the Essex community each year in a celebration of the holiday season.
Essex Rotary
All Star Hockey Classic
- Each March, high school
men and
women in their senior year of high school are selected across Vermont to
participate in this event. The Hockey Classic features a men’s
game and a women’s game, each of which affords these outstanding young
athletes an opportunity to be recognized for their achievements on the
ice and to play one more game against the best high school hockey
players in Vermont. This event is also utilized by the Make-A-Wish
Foundation to select members of a Vermont all-star team to play against
a team of all-stars from New Hampshire in that organization’s New
Hampshire vs. Vermont All-Star Hockey Classic held later in the summer.
Salvation Army
Bell Ringing - Every December, Essex Rotarians volunteer to work
bell-ringing shifts over a two day period at the local Price Chopper in
Essex.
